art in the world, Taekwondo is
practiced by over 40 million
people in over 140 countries.
Practitioners of TKD focus on
the development of their legs.
Arms are used for punching and
blocking, but the legs are the
primary offensive weapon in TKD
and are used to devastating effect.
Training involves free sparring
and board breaking. By breaking
boards, the TKD practitioner
is demonstrating the ability
to focus and execute a maneuver
with speed and power. Free sparring
allows them to train in a fluid
constantly moving state.
The Study of Tae kwon do will
develop primarily the large
muscle groups of the legs and
promote balance. Tae kwon do
became an Olympic sport in
1980.
